Is Therapy Finished?

IS THERAPY FINISHED?

One answer does not exist.  However, here are some questions to ask yourself and discuss with your therapist:

What brought me into therapy?

What were my initial therapy goals?

What have I accomplished so far?

What, specifically is different in my life?  How am I different?  Am I thinking differently? Feeling differently?

Is there more I would like to work on right now?  Later?

Are there patterns in my life that I would like to change, have changed?

Are there questions I have for my therapist?

What would it be like to begin to reduce my therapy visits?

Do I have a problem solving plan(s)?

Do I worry about how I will manage once I have stopped therapy?

Do I have a condition that requires ongoing therapy?

Why am I thinking about ending therapy now?  What has prompted this thought?  Is this a new thought?  Have I been thinking about it for a while?

Ending therapy is as important a decision as beginning therapy.  You owe it to yourself to consider this decision carefully.
