Katrina - From a survivor

KATRINA

BY TRENIKA CARR*

A Hurricane Katrina Survivor

and

 Recent High School Graduate

Sometimes God puts us through a test

But I know I'm still Blessed.

We may go though ups and downs

But God is still around.

We have no fireplace, large TV or cable

But I know God is able.

I have lost my home, a cousin and a friend

But I know Jesus is with me to the end.

For everything, there is a season,

And I trust Jesus for that reason.

I have lost my jewelry, silver and gold,

But I still have my soul.

So I know God is in control;

As we laid on the floor

God opened a door;

A stranger gave us a home

I know God will never leave us alone.

Our earthly home is gone,

But our heavenly home will live on.

Get to know Jesus - it's a Must

He is one I know you can Trust.

Thank you Everybody, for being as kind,

You will always be on my mind!

*Trenika participated in the MyNDTALK series on "The Women Of Katrina" which aired on Pacifica Radio,  WPFW 89.3 FM radio in Washington, DC Tri-State Area. The Journey Radio -- St. Louis, MO., www.wpfw.org and available on www.audioport.org

Trenika was gracious enough to share her poem with the MyNDTALK audience - and amazingly, during the MyNDTALK program was able to reconnect with a friend h whom she'd lost contact as a result of Hurricane Katrina -  who was also a participant in the MyNDTALK series - hosted by Dr. Pamela Brewer.

Dr. Brewer and the MyNDTALK listeners were honored to have Trenika and all the other women in "The Women of Katrina" series.

 Despite experiencing what most of us never will ... each and every woman survived with courage and grace...we salute you all!
